Wasabi Burgers

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds regular ground beef
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Wasabi paste
  • 4 chopped green onions
  • Arugula lettuce
For the mayo
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp Wasabi paste
  • 1/2 tbsp Mirin, (can sub in sweet Asian chili sauce or brown sugar)
Directions
  1. Mix the beef with the green onions, soy sauce, ginger, wasabi paste, and garlic.
  2. Using your hands mix it all together really well. Shape the hamburger meat into 1/4 lb patties, about 1/2 inch thick and try not to overwork the meat when doing the shaping; the more you handle it, the dryer and tougher it will be. Let them sit at room temp for an hour before grilling - this is going to give the flavours a chance to really meld.
  3. While the patties rest, mix the mayo ingredients together.
  4. Grill the burgers over high heat for about 6 minutes a side or until the internal temp reads at least 160 degrees.
  5. Generously spread the Wasabi mayo on both sides of your favourite hamburger buns followed by the hamburger patty, thinly sliced sweet pickles, and arugula lettuc.
