Cream Cheese Frosting
- 1 250 gram container Philadelphia Cream Cheese, regular or light at room temperature
- 1/4 cup(s) of softened butter
- 1 cup(s) of sifted confectioner's sugar
- 1/2 tsp. of vanilla extract
- 1 250 gram container Philadelphia Cream Cheese, regular or light, plus 1/2 cup
- 1/2 cup(s) of unsweetened apple sauce
- 1 tbsp. of maple syrup
- 1 tsp. of cinnamon
- 4 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/3 cup(s) of chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 cup(s) of melted butter
- 1 box puff pastry, thawed
Directions
- For the frosting: In a medium bowl, cream together 1, 250 gram container Philly cream cheese and 1/4 cup softened butter until creamy. Mix in the vanilla, then gradually stir in the confectioners' sugar. Store in the refrigerator until use.
- For the turnovers: Pre-heat oven to 400. Spray a baking sheet with non stick spray or cover with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl beat together 1 250 gram container Philly cream cheese, apple sauce, maple syrup, cinnamon, and egg yolk.
- Stir in the diced apples, nuts, and the other 1/2 cup of softened Philly cream cheese.
- Remove the thawed pastry to a lightly floured surface.Most puff pastry comes s two squares - you will be using both. Cut in half and roll out your first square of puff pastry dough on a lightly floured surface to a 16x11 inch rectangle. Trim the edges and cut into six 5x5-inch squares.
- Place 1-2 Tbsp of the apple and cream cheese mixture in the center of one of your rectangles. Fold into triangle shape and brush edges with a little egg and milk wash to use as glue. Flatten edges with the tines of a fork.Brush triangles with more egg and milk wash.
- Lay triangles seam side down on baking dish and bake at 400 for 20-25 minutes. Let rest 5 minutes before icing
- Put cream cheese icing into a pastry bag and pipe cream onto warm turnovers. Serve warm.
